No need for visa to see Argentine side of Falls. Cost of Brazilian visa: US$ 100.00 ( this is equivalent to what Brazilians are charged for American visa) Cost of Paraguayan visa: about US$ 40.00 This is the responsibility of each passenger, they will not let you travel without a visa! Travel insurance is included ONLY for the land portion of the trip. You can take out your own insurance for the Air portion, in case you cannot travel for whatever reason. Travel to and from Brazil will be on TAM, the Brazilian Airline, from Miami International Airport to Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport, returning from SP to Miami. *This is not a plant collecting trip. We will travel by Deluxe bus from Sao Paulo to Harri Lorenzi’s and on through that part of Brazil to the hot springs in Goias, on to Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro. This will be a great way to see the landscapes of Brazil. From Rio, we will fly to Iguaçu Falls on TAM, returning to the US, also on TAM, via Iguaçu-Sao Paulo –Miami, on October 3, 2007. Our international flights will be day flights; no having to sleep overnight in a chair! Your return flight is scheduled to arrive in Miami at 5:30PM, Oct 3, 2007. Proposed Itinerary: Day 1- September 18 – Leave Miami on TAM , Brazilian Airline, Flight # 8095- 11:15AM—arrive in Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport at 8:15PM Spend 1 night at Caesar Business Hotel – Breakfast included (morning of day 2) Day 2 September 19 – Leave hotel on bus proceeding to Harri Lorenzi’s Instituto Plantarum, (about 80 miles) stopping along the way for a typical Brazilian Churrasco lunch. Visit the Instituto Plantarum’s lovely gardens and greenhouses and headquarters followed by tea at Harri Lorenzi’s home. At the end of the day you will be taken, by bus to the Antonius Hotel in the town of Piracicaba, about 25 miles from the Institute. Day 3 – Sept. 20 -Thursday - VERY EARLY – a visit to CEASA, the flower market in Campinas (43 miles) a visit to EXPOFLORA (24 miles) a large plant exhibition in Holambra. 80% of Brazil's plant exports come from here. Lunch at the EXPO then if there is an interest, a visit to the Dierberger’s Nursery in Limeira (30 miles from Holambra) returning to the hotel at the end of the afternoon (15 miles). Day 4 – Sept 21 -Friday- Travel to Sao Sebastiao do Paraiso, Minas Gerais to visit a coffee plantation and see native trees of the cerrado. (167 miles) then to a hotel in Ribeirao Preto for 1 night (62 miles) Day 5 Sept 22- Saturday – Travel to Itumbiara, Goias via Uberaba and Uberlandia (248 miles). You will see natural populations of flowering trees and vegetation of the cerrado along the way. We will spend the night at the Hotel Beira Rio in Itumbiara. Day 6 Sept 23 – Sunday – Travel to the hot springs at Pousada do Rio Quente, Goias (86 miles) viewing the semi deciduous forest of the Parana River Basin, along the way, arriving at the hot springs around 2 PM. Spend the night at the Hotel Pousada do Rio Quente ( this can be seen on line) Day 7 – Sept 24 – Monday – Enjoy activities at the Pousada, hot baths etc and hike through the local cerrado. Day 8 – September 25 – Tuesday – Early departure heading towards Belo Horizonte, via Araguari and Patrocinio spending one night in Patos de Minas, 155 miles from the hot springs. Along the way you will see "cerrado of altitude" with natural populations of flowering species such as Kielmeyera rubra, Vochysia tyrsoidea, Jacaranda brasiliana, schlerolobium paniculatum, etc. Day 9 – September 26 – Wednesday - Travel from Patos de Minas to Belo Horizonte (217 miles) through the "cerrado" with populations of flowering trees such as ipes, jacarandas and sucupiras. Stay at the Hotel Metropolitan (Savassi). Day 10- September 27- Thursday - Visit the Inhotin Botanic and Cultural Center 37.2 miles from Belo Horizonte. There are many trees to see there. Lunch at the Center then an afternoon visit to the Rola Moca Park. Back to Belo Horizonte for the night. Day 11- Sept 28 – Friday – Travel from Belo Horizonte to Rio de Janeiro – (248 miles) along the way you will see the Mata Atlantica and many flowering trees; on arrival in Rio we will drive by the Flamingo Park, designed by Burle Marx. We will stay in a hotel on Copacabana Beach. Day 12 – Sept 29 – Saturday- We will visit the Sitio Burle Marx (his home) and will explore the Flamingo Park mentioned above. Day 13 – Sept 30 – Sunday – Visit to the Botanic Garden and Sugar Loaf Mountain. Day 14 Oct 1 Monday – Travel by air to Iguaçu Falls. Visit the Falls on the Brazilian side in the afternoon. Day 15 – Oct 2 – Tuesday – Full day in Iguaçu- Visit to Bird Park, those who are interested (at their own expense) take a helicopter ride ( US$259) – 35 minutes, above the Falls, the Friendship Bridge and Itaipu Dam. A half day tour is available to see Itaipu Dam. The helicopters leave from near the Bird Park, so that can be combined to. Visit to local commerce and if interested take a trip across to Paraguay or Argentina ( to see the Falls from the top). Day 16 – Leave Iguaçu at 6:30AM, arrive Sao Paulo at 8:05 AM ( Terminal 1 Guarulhos) Leave Sao Paulo (Terminal 1 Guarulhos) at 10:30AM for Miami. Arrive in Miami at 5:30 PM.
