Featured Events - Saturday, June 5th:

10:30 am  - CELEBRATION OF THE POINCIANA- Learn about the history of the Poinciana, how to plant and care for your tree,  the color spectrum of its blossoms, and the rare White Poinciana.

Noon - CORSAGE MAKING AND OTHER DECORATIVE USES OF POINCIANA- Learn to make Poinciana corsages and how to use these beautiful flowers in new and exciting ways.

1:00 pm - EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT BOUGAINVILLEA (but were afraid to ask) - Learn about bougainvillea care and culture as well as new and exciting cultivars.

2:00 pm - RECOMMENDED VARIETIES OF TROPICAL FRUIT FOR SOUTH FLORIDA HOMEOWNERS - Learn from an expert about the best mangos, avocado, carambola, lychee, logan, jakfruit and others.

3:00 pm - ATTRACTING BUTTERFLIES TO YOUR GARDEN - Learn about what plants attract butterflies as well as the plants needed to feed them as larvae so that they can complete their life cycles

4:00 pm - NEW AND EXCITING TROPICAL FLOWERING TREES - Learn about new and unusual tropical flowering trees that will color the horizon and bring joy to you and your neighbors

5:00 pm - POINCIANA QUEEN AND COURT  RECEPTION AND CORONATION CEREMONY - Outstanding young women receive book scholarships. Poinciana Passion Punch and Cake will be served

6:00 pm - SUNSET CONCERT BY IKO-IKO, WITH GUEST GUITARIST EXTRA ORDINAIRE, ALBERT CASTIGLIA - Blues, funk and boogie from Miami's premier get down band

11:00 a.m. - WALKING TOUR OF JEAN WILLIS FLOWERING TREE PARK - Located next door to City Hall, this delightful park of tropical flowering trees was planted by the Tropical Flowering Tree Society in 1992.

Noon - PALM CULTURE AND RECOMMENDED VARIETIES FOR SOUTH FLORIDA - How to plant, fertilize and prune your palms for healthy, long lives. Plus, recommended selections for South Florida.

1:00 pm - ATTRACTING WILDLIFE WITH NATIVE PLANTS - While noninvasive exotics also benefit wildlife, natives are known to support local fauna from historical times. Make your yard a bird sanctuary.

1:30 PM - POINCIANA TROLLEY TOUR - Narrated tour of the area's best Poincianas with tour of gardens and refreshments at historic home of David Fairchild, the Kampong. $20 per person. RESERVATIONS (305) 789-7531

2:00 pm - CULTURE, PROPAGATION AND GRAFTING OF FRANGIPANI (PLUMERIA) - Learn about the fragrant flowers of Hawaiian lei fame, and how to make your home a delicious bouquet of colorful blooms.

3:00 pm - BROMELIADS - JEWELS OF THE JUNGLE - Learn about the care and propagation of these unusual and colorful plants, recommended varieties for the home gardener and newly developed hybrids

4:00 pm - To Be Announced - Probably, Wild Flowers of Southern Florida or Proper Pruning for Healthy Trees

5:00 pm - ORCHID ADDICTION - Learn why these attractive beauties ‘hook' enthusiasts worldwide. Lecture and demonstration will include information on the types of orchids, their care, and  recommended species for our area

6:00 pm - CLOSING CONCERT BY JAZZ GREAT JOE DONATO AND PRESENTATION OF THE LARRY M. SCHOKMAN AWARD - Groove to jazz and Caribbean rhythms as we close this celebration of the Poinciana
