ABUTILON CHITTENENDI - Malvaceae – An evergreen small tree with yellow flowers with an orange center. Long time winter bloomer. ALCALYPHA HISPIDA –Chenille Plant – Euphorbiaceae – Long 1 to 2’ red pipe cleaner-like catkins hang down on this shrub. Blooms all year long, but is cold sensitive. ACACIA NILOTICA ssp. TOMENTOSA - Mimosaceae – Micro-sized yellow powder puff flowers in clusters. Leaves are covered in blue tinged whitish hairs. ASTER CAROLINIANUS – Climbing Aster – Asteraceae – 10’ vine-like plant with pink to lavender blooms. BARLERIA CRISTATA - Philippine Violet - Acanthaceae - Shrub to 5'. Spikes of 2" blue tubular flowers. Butterfly attractor. BARLERIA OBTUSA – Purple Dazzler – Acanthaceae – Showy shrub to 4’ with tricolor white/purple/green variegated foliage and purple flowers. Flowers appear luminescent in the evening. BAUHINIA MONANDRA - Pink Orchid Tree – Caesalpiniaceae - Small semi-deciduous tree with pink flowers in spring. BAUHINIA TOMENTOSA - Yellow Orchid Tree or St. Thomas Tree –Caesalpiniaceae - A small tree with yellow tulip shaped flowers. Good for the small yard. BIXA ORELLANA - Lipstick Tree - Bixaceae - A small tree with lavender flowers and long lasting red seed pods . BOUGANVILLEA SPECTABILIS – Bougainvillea - Nyctaginaceae – Vibrant, colorful bracts on this fall and winter blooming shrub/vine. Flowers are white and tiny, but the bracts remain for many months. BRACHYCHITON DISCOLOR - Australian Lacebark - Sterculiaceae - Medium to tall tree. Pink flowers are long bell-shaped. Late spring bloomer. BROWNEA MACROPHYLLA – Brownea – Caesalpiniaceae – Medium tree with scarlet orange flowers in clusters. BRUGMANSIA ARBOREA – Double White Angel’s Trumpet - Solanaceae - Dark green pelted leaves on this shrub/small tree with hanging double white 10" trumpets. Fragrant , smells similar to Easter Lilies. Grows 10‘ tall. BRUGMANSIA AUREA – Yellow Angel’s Trumpet – Solanaceae – Large, long, light yellow trumpets that turn to a golden light apricot color as they mature. Flowers hang down and have a citrus-like fragrance. Grows 12’ tall. BRUGMANSIA SANGUINEA – Red Angel’s Trumpet - Solanaceae - Hanging tubular trumpets that are smaller and more narrow than other Angel’s Trumpet species. Flowers emerge yellow and turn red for most of the length of the tube. Blooms in late winter and early spring. Rare and unusual shrub. Grows to 6’. BRUGMANSIA spp. - Trumpet Tree (Angel’s Trumpet) - Solanaceae - Large shrub or small tree to 10'. Hanging flowers. Fragrant at night. Variety of colors will be available. Blooms on and off all year. BRUGMANSIA sp. ‘ECUADOR PINK’ –Pink Angel’s Trumpet - Solanaceae - Compact semi-dwarf shrub to 6’ with fragrant hanging trumpets. Flowers are a true pink color. This cultivar also grows well in containers. BRUGMANSIA VERSICOLOR - Peach Angel’s Trumpet – Solanaceae – Hanging peach colored trumpets. Available in green leaf form or in variegated ‘Peaches and Cream’ with the same flower color. Green is 8’ tall ; variegated form is shorter. BRUGMANSIA X CANDIDA – Angel’s Trumpet - Solanaceae - Large shrub or small tree. ‘Cypress Gardens’ is a good cultivar with hanging, white trumpets. ‘Cypress Gardens’ grows better in containers than other Brugmansias. BRUGMANSIA X INSIGNIS - Angel’s Trumpet – Solanaceae – Large, bell shaped blooms face outward at a 45 degree angle. Trumpets are almost as wide as they are long. Available in White, Peach, Salmon, ‘Tricolor Pink’, and ‘Frosty Pink’. BRUNFELSIA GRANDIFOLIA var. GRANDIFLORA – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow – Solanaceae - Flowers that open dark blue, then fade to light blue and finally white on the third day. Large shrub blooms in light shade. BRUNFELSIA LACTEA – Lady of the Night – Solanaceae – Shrub with vanilla colored blooms that are very fragrant at night. Flowers tend to be larger and more prolific than Brunfelsia nitida. Blooms in light shade like most Brunfelsias. BRUNFELSIA NITIDA - Lady of the Night - Solanaceae - Shrub to 6' with creamy white flowers year round. Fragrant. BRUNFELSIA PLICATA – Lady of the Night - Solanaceae- Shrub similar in appearance to B. lactea, but with a longer floral tube, a twist in the petals and longer leaves. BRYA EBENUS - Jamaican Rain Tree - Papilionaceae - Evergreen tree from 25'-40'. Yellow or orange flowers clusters in the leaf axis. MUSSAENDA ERYTHROPHYLLA – Ashanti’s Blood – Rubiaceae - Vivid bright red bracts on this single red Mussaenda resemble a poinsettia in full bloom in the summer. Blooms earlier in the spring and is more cold tolerant than the double Mussaendas. Rare color selection. MUSSAENDA ERYTHROPHYLLA 'Queen Sirikit' - Rubiaceae – Light pink colored bracts that have a dark salmon picotee edge around the margin.. MUSSAENDA GLABRA – Dwarf Yellow Mussaenda –Rubiaceae - 4’ shrub with single mini light yellow sepals (bracts). Very cold tolerant and the easiest Mussaenda to grow. ODONTONEMA CALLISTACHYUM – Lavender Firespike – Acanthaceae – Similar to red firespike with lavender flowers and less winter bloom. OSMANTHUS FRAGRANS – Sweet Olive or Tea Olive – Oleaceae - Very fragrant white flowers on this medium tree. PACHIRA AQUATICA - Guinea Chestnut or Water Chestnut - Bombacaceae - Medium sized evergreen tree. 8 inch flowers with many red-tipped stamens bloom on and off all year. Large brown edible seed pods. PACHIRA (BOMBAX) GLABRA - French Peanut - Bombacaceae - Medium tree. Large flowers with long white stamens have strong fragrance of vanilla. Blooms in late winter through early summer. Edible seeds. PACHIRA INSIGNIS - Wild Chestnut - Bombacaceae - Large tree similar to P.aquatica but not well known. (No red tips on stamens.) PANDOREA JASMINOIDES – Bower Vine – Bignoniaceae – White, lavender or pink 2" bell-shaped flowers on vigorous vines. Blooms continuously. Flowers are slightly fragrant and smell like raspberries. PARMENTIERA CEREFERA – Candle Tree -Bignoniaceae - A small tree with rough bark and 3" curved white flowers. Fruits are long, tapered and light yellow- resembling wax candles. PLUMERIA RUBRA - Frangipani - Apocynaceae - Small deciduous tree with fragrant flowers. Available in mostly pinks and reds. Widely used in making leis in Hawaii. PLUMERIA HYBRIDS & SPECIAL SELECTIONS - ‘KEY WEST RED’- Beautiful red rubra type from the historic streets of Key West. ‘PAUL WEISSICH’ – A new, fast growing plumeria that has orange flowers. ‘KIMO’ – Sibling of ‘Paul Weissich’ also has orange flowers, but grows slower.
POLYANTHA LONGIFOLIA – Telegraph Pole Tree – Annonaceae – This tree has a very columnar growth habit and resembles Italian Cypress in form and function. The tree also has small green flowers. PUNICA GRANATUM FLOREPLENO - Pomegranate - Punicaceae - A large shrub or small evergreen tree with orange flowers. Does not fruit well in South Florida, but produces abundant flowers. RUSSELIA EQUITISETIFORMIS – Firecracker Shrub – Acanthaceae – Elongated sale-like leaves on long arching branches terminating in hundreds of small scarlet bell-shaped flowers.
